Advocate's Lectern

There are friezes above, on the north, east, south, and west walls. Links in this node will launch a short movie about each frieze. The advocate faces nine justices. Their seating is determined by seniority with the chief justice at the center, the senior associate justice to his immediate right, the next to his left, and so on. Each has a pewter drinking cup and a spittoon. The spittoons serve as wastebaskets. The last time a justice used a spittoon for its intended purpose was in the early 20th century.
