Hunt is chiefly remembered for his refusal to resign from the Court for three years after suffering an incapacitating stroke. Despite many gentle hints from Chief Justice Waite, Hunt refused to throw in the towel. (He needed 10 years of service to quality for life-time salary.)  Ferrell was stricken with excessive optimism regarding his chances of playing in the bigs.  Even though his brothers Wes and Rick (a future Hall-of-Famer) enjoyed success there, George toiled in the minors for 20 years.</answer>
