Both had long careers.  Both often clashed with others&#8212;in Williams's case, this frequently involved arguments with the A's tyrannical owner Charlie Finley.  Field was noted for using the 14th Amendment's due process clause in ways that its creators never intended.  And even though the platooning concept had been used at many positions, Williams was the first to systematically extend it to the bullpen, where he used a combination of lefties and righties to close out games.</answer>
