OF 1B DH, b.1939. Last big leaguer to win the Triple Crown; did it in 1967 with 44 dingers, 121 RBIs, and a .326 average. OF, 1862-1935. These men were devoutly religious. Strong held offices in a number of religious organizations, including the American Sunday-School Union and the American Bible Society. He favored amending the U.S. Constitution to establish “Lord Jesus Christ as the Governor among nations, and His revealed will as of supreme authority.” Sunday was known as “The Evangelist,” and quit baseball after a superb 1890 season—he stole 84 bases—to work for the church. He became an advocate of Prohibition, and supported proposals to ban baseball games on Sundays. 1B, b. 1968. Won back-to-back AL MVP awards with the Chisox in 1993 and 1994. 3B, b. 1949. Won back-to-back NL MVP awards with the Phillies in 1980 and 1981.
