He never lived up to his promise, though, and arguably the worst of Lincoln's five Court appointments.  Ivie was a #1 draft choice of the Padres.  When he made it to the bigs, he often pouted&#8212;even left the team for a few days&#8212;when he didn't get to play first base.  He was traded, and by 1980 his production at the plate became unimpressive.  Rick Monday described Ivie as "a forty-million-dollar airport with a thirty-dollar control tower."</answer>
