Rookie of the Year in 1991, and NL MVP in 1994. RHP, b. 1964. Both Kennedy and Saberhagen seemed to come from nowhere. Kennedy was Reagan’s third choice to replace Lewis Powell (behind Judges Robert Bork and Douglas Ginsburg who failed to gain Senate confirmation). Saberhagen was a 19th round draft pick in 1982. Both have been inconsistent during their careers. Saberhagen has had trouble putting together a strong full season, while Kennedy agonizes more than his colleagues, and has been known to end the day holding one opinion and then changing his mind after considering the issues overnight.
