The Supreme Court audio materials represent the largest component in this archive. Note: arguments and opinions do not come from the National Archives as individual tracks that are simply dubbed and distributed.
The audio was extracted from reel-to-reel tapes and engineered to correct for defects in the recording process such as slow recording or fast recording speed problems. Arguments and opinions can extend across tapes, requiring editorial effort to assemble them as stand-alone tracks. Consequently, we have claimed a limited copyright to these materials and to the markup and other value-added features such as alignment of transcripts, voice identification of transcripts, and other value-added features in the archive.
