Charles A. Rothfeld, Special Counsel Charles Rothfeld concentrates on Supreme Court and appellate practice. He has written or edited more than 200 briefs and petitions for certiorari in the United States Supreme Court. Charles has argued 20 cases in the Court and has appeared in numerous federal courts of appeals and state courts. Since joining Mayer, Brown, his clients in the Supreme Court have included states and local governments, members of Congress and other public officials, and businesses. Prior to entering private practice, Charles was an assistant to the Solicitor General in the U.S. Department of Justice and counsel to the State and Local Legal Center. He also has served as a special associate independent counsel in the Iran-Contra inquiry and as minority counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Select Subcommittee on the United States Role in Iranian Arms Transfers to Croatia and Bosnia. Charles currently is a member of the Board of Advisers to Georgetown University Law Center's Supreme Court Institute and serves as co-director of the Yale Law School's Supreme Court Advocacy clinic and seminar. Charles is a graduate of Cornell University and the University of Chicago Law School, where he was articles editor of the law review. After graduation, he clerked for Chief Judge Spottswood Robinson, III, of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and for Justice Harry A.
