Andrew J. Pincus, Partner Andy Pincus has argued fifteen cases in the Supreme Court of the United States, including most recently Illinois Tool Works Inc. v. Independent Ink, Inc., 126 S. Ct. 1281 (2006), and -- on November 28, 2006 -- Weyerhaeuser Company v. Ross-Simmons Hardwood Lumber Co., No. 05-381. In addition, Andy has filed briefs in more than 100 other cases in the Court. Chambers USA Guide (2006) reports that Andy ""is recommended as a 'wonderful all-around appellate lawyer' who is 'an exceptional writer as well as very good on his feet.'"" Andy's appellate expertise won him recognition in The Best Lawyers in America (2006). Andy also serves as co-director of the Yale Law School's Supreme Court Advocacy clinic and seminar. In addition to his extensive practice before the federal and state appellate courts, Andy advocates clients' interests before Congress, state legislatures, and federal and state regulatory agencies. Andy joined Mayer Brown in 1988, after serving as an Assistant to the Solicitor General from 1984 to 1988. He left the firm in 1997 to serve as General Counsel of the United States Department of Commerce, a position he held until 2000, and then as General Counsel of Andersen Worldwide. He returned to the firm in June 2003. Andy received his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law, where he was Notes & Comments Editor of the Columbia Law Review and a James Kent Scholar and Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. He received his B.A. cum laude from Yale University. After law school, he clerked for Judge Harold H. Greene of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
