Overview
Robert C. Owen is a Clinical Professor of Law at the University of Texas at Austin, where he has taught continuously since 1998. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he studied comparative literature, and Harvard Law School. After law school, he spent six years as an attorney with a non-profit law office in Austin representing death row prisoners. He then served for three years as an Assistant Federal Public Defender in Seattle, Washington, after which he returned to Austin to combine a private law practice with clinical law teaching. He became a full-time Clinical Professor in September 2006. Mr. Owen co-directs the Capital Punishment Clinic, shares responsibility for teaching the classroom course on capital punishment, and leads a freshman seminar on the death penalty in the undergraduate Plan II Honors Program.
