Stephen B. Kinnaird, Partner

STEPHEN B. KINNAIRD is a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Sidley Austin LLP. Since joining the firm in 1996, Mr. Kinnaird has, among other things, briefed cases before the United States Supreme Court concerning natural gas rights, the Federal Railroad Safety Act, the Federal Employers' Liability Act, the Social Security Act, the Telecommunications Act, the Takings Clause, and the Eleventh Amendment, as well as representing various petitioners and amici before the Supreme Court. He has briefed and argued a number of cases in the courts of appeals and district court, and he has worked on a variety of criminal and civil matters involving, in addition to the areas of law noted above, the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, the Federal Locomotive Inspection Act, the Patent and Copyright Acts, ERISA, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Veterans' Judicial Review Act, the bank fraud and securities laws, punitive damages, and constitutional and state law, among others.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Kinnaird served as law clerk to Associate Justice Anthony M. Kennedy of the United States Supreme Court and to Judge John M. Walker, Jr. of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Prior to his legal career, Mr. Kinnaird was a management consultant in the corporate strategy practice of the firm of Booz, Allen & Hamilton.
