Robert N. Hochman, Partner

ROBERT N. HOCHMAN is a partner in the firm's Chicago office. His practice focuses in general commercial appellate litigation, and also in briefing and arguing critical motions in trial courts. Mr. Hochman regularly appears in the United States Supreme Court, state Supreme Courts, and federal and state courts of appeals. Since joining the firm in 1999, Mr. Hochman has briefed several cases in the United States Supreme Court, including matters concerning transportation law and federal jurisdiction. Mr. Hochman also has briefed matters in various state Supreme Courts concerning punitive damages, product liability law, and the unauthorized practice of law. He has argued and briefed matters in various federal and state courts of appeals on a broad range of issues including, most recently, arbitration, patents, antitrust, the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, and federal securities law. Mr. Hochman has also represented various parties and amici in criminal matters before the United States Supreme Court, most recently briefing issues concerning the Confrontation Clause and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

Before joining the firm, Mr. Hochman served as a lawclerk to Justice Stephen G. Breyer of the United States Supreme Court and Chief Judge Richard A. Posner of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He graduated with Highest Honors from the University of Chicago Law School, where he served as Comment Editor on the University of Chicago Law Review and received the Casper Platt award for student academic writing.
